He took primary and secondary education in Gopalganj. He passed his Matriculation from Gopalganj Missionary School in 1942, Intermediate of Arts from Calcutta Islamia College in 1944 and BA from the same college in 1947. The country was then under British colonial rule and the oppressors continued to loot the country’s resources. He raised his voice against the oppression of the government. In 1947, the Indian subcontinent was divided into two countries, India and Pakistan. Our motherland was referred to as East Pakistan but it was far away from its western part. After partition, the country was again oppressed by the West Pakistani rulers. Sheikh Mujib protested and became a villain in the eyes of the West Pakistani oppressors. He had to go to prison several times to fulfil the purpose of his country. Eventually, West Pakistani rules planned genocide to silence the voice of this country. Although they held a general election in 1970, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman won the majority of votes but was unable to form a government. It also threw cartridges among the people of East Pakistan. 19 March 1971 Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered a speech in front of millions of people which encouraged the people of East Pakistan to fight for their liberation. This was the turning point of the people’s interest in ultimate independence from the West Pakistani oppressors. Bangladesh achieved its victory after a bloody nine-month war against the Pakistani military. After the independence of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu started working to enrich Bangladesh with money and other aspects. He was unable to perform his duties as he was killed along with his family on August 15, 1975. This was the saddest event in the history of Bangladesh. Nevertheless, we remember him as the father of the nation and will be remembered forever. The government has declared his 100th birth year as the year of Mujib and it will be celebrated with the utmost respect. His life and struggle will always teach us to work for the betterment of the people of our country.
